Yeahhh, so I forgot to renew the domain by the deadline, so it took a few days after I realized I missed it to pay my host. Then it took another week for it come back up after that because it still wasn’t unlocked. So I had to get a support ticket and wait some more =(.

Anyways, sorry about that, I’ll make sure not to miss it next year ;) . I’ve been working on a few different things.

1. A platformer game is almost done, I took the engine I made for Tigg-Dude (see the Nevermore 3 post) and applied it to a ninja game, it’s similar to Ninja Rinseout.

2. For the past 4 or so days I’ve been writing a site from scratch to eventually replace this wordpress. I just want some more control, and it’d be cool to have a fully functional site that [i]I[/i] built. So far everything’s working pretty good, there’s a user system done (register, log in, log out), privileged users can post to the main page, and there are news archives.

I’ll be uploading this in a few days after I get the games system working. I’ll keep the wordpress part of this site running though until I get all the posts switched over and redirects working 100%. I’m not sure how long that’ll take…

Evermore Engine – Almost Like Nevermore 3

So about that gun tutorial stuff I mentioned in my last post, I’ll do it tonight, I just eh, forgot to do it before ;) .

Anyways, I worked on this today, probably 2-3 of work total. All I did was play through Nevermore 3 twice and then I started copying all the features I could find.

I still need to do talking, and show an example of a non-recurring event =(, for this I just store a specific boolean on the main Gamescreen class, so everytime a non-recurring event is added to the map, it can check if it’s already been activated or not. There will be 3 frames in a non-recurring event, a not activated frame/animation, an activation frame/animation, and a been activated frame/animation. Pretty simple stuff.

Features include:
Map Transitions, going map to map.
Ramps
Platforms
Jumping/General Movement
Staircases/Stuff on ground you can run over instead of stopping to jump on it.
Recurring Events

Stuff to add soon:
Character Talking
Narrative Taling- For general instructions during the game.
Non-recurring Events

And beyond that I’ll just have to wait and see what this guy: Tigg-Dude an artist wants in his sequel. Hell I don’t even know if he’ll do one, but he mind as well since the engine’s pretty much already done. Good for me too, 50/50 split and this engine took only a few hours, but it kicks the shit out of his old one that probably took him weeks to make. He’s a sweet artist, but a shit coder :) .

Yup, he’s pretty good at drawing ;) .

Guns Inside of Other MC’s and Bullets Hitting Targets

Well, shit. I know I have said there’s other stuff coming, but this stuff needs to come before any other tutorials because I guess its some closure to the gun series.

A few people have tried to take the gun stuff a step furthur and putting it inside of another character, or shooting a target and making them go to a wounded frame when they get shot.

This stuff is cool, and I’ll bundle these together into one tutorial. So hopefully it will answer any questions you have concerning that. Expect this Friday night PST (GMT-8:00).

Here’s an example showing a gun shooting inside of a player movieclip. Sample FLA. Thanks Jonathan Driver for letting me use this as an example! I’ll explain the code in my tutorial, not here. Things are wierd because he horizontally flipped the character, but not through code…

Use WASD to move him.

Here’s an example showing off how a bullet can check if it hits a target, and the target will die after getting shot enough times.

I’d show the swf too, but its just the same old Bunny Invasion demo swf I have on the Bunny Page. So if you’re interested in that stuff, then take a look, the hittest code is in the bullet’s drawLines function. And there is an array of enemies on the main timeline which is crucial to it working.

EDIT: Did it again, I got 411 points, position 459 out of 62496. =( I bet they reset the rankings though, but its still 11 points higher than before. 100 words again, just 1 wrong, and 539 characters. =)

Woah. So I’m in the top 1.1% based on the stats of this one site, my last test ranked me 50487 of 4298714.
50487 divided by 4298714 is 0.0117446752679987549764883172037. Or 1.1% (1.2% if you round up :( ).
